Originally released in 1983, “One More River” is a killer steppers Roots Rock tune cut to quite an unusual riddim track. Although it was recorded at a time when Dancehall was fast becoming the mainstream, General Plough’s unique, nasal high-tone vocal delivery, the striking flute accompaniment and the Eastern-flavor melody combine to produce a result that exemplifies Roots Reggae at its very best. Never previously reissued, it has acquired something of a legendary status among the most dedicated collectors. Thirty years on, first-time listeners will not fail to be struck by the inexplicable strangeness that pervades this rare gem of a tune.
